Sanctioning Sovereignty: The ICC and the Erosion of International Law The US government's latest move to sanction top figures at the International Criminal Court (ICC) marks a new low in Washington's campaign to dismantle the court and undermine international law.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the sanctions, following an order from President Donald Trump, targeting ICC President Tomoko Akane and Senior Trial Lawyer Abdoulaye Seye with asset freezes, travel bans, and restrictions on services from US companies.
The move is not a surprise, given the Trump administration's long standing opposition to the ICC.
