Storms Without Warning: Cape Breton's Unpreparedness is a Harbinger of Things to Come The torrential downpour that ravaged parts of Cape Breton over the weekend left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Widespread washouts, destroyed roads and bridges, and at least one fatality were among the devastating consequences. Some areas received more than 200 millimeters of rain – an amount unprecedented in recent memory.

Richmond County Warden Lois Landry expressed the sentiments of many when she said, "We really weren't prepared for that.
